Count to the infinite or the wolrd explode.
"Emily, you’ve got to see this."
I look up from my laptop, where I’m working on a paper for my English class, and see Mark standing in the doorway of our dorm room.
"See what?"
I ask.
He doesn’t answer, just jerks his head toward the hallway.
Curious, I get up and follow him out of the room.
We go down the hall to his room, where Sarah is sitting on his bed, her laptop open in front of her.
She looks up when we come in.
"Hey," she says.
"What’s going on?"
"I found something," Mark says.
He goes over to his desk and picks up a piece of paper.
It’s a photocopy of a page from an old book, and it’s covered with strange symbols and writing in a language I don’t recognize.
"It was stuck in one of the books in the library," he says.
"I almost didn’t notice it. It was like it was hidden there on purpose."
He hands me the paper, and I look at it.
The symbols are definitely strange, but they’re also kind of beautiful, like something you’d see in a museum or an art gallery.
"What does it say?" "I don’t know," Mark admits.
I feel a chill run down my spine as I examine the mysterious page.
The symbols seem to dance on the paper, almost alive.
Sarah types furiously on her laptop, trying to decode them.
Mark paces back and forth, his face tense with worry.
"Any luck?" I ask Sarah, my voice trembling slightly.
"Almost there," she mutters, not taking her eyes off the screen.
The room is filled with the sound of her typing and Mark's restless footsteps.
Suddenly, Sarah's screen flashes with a translation.
Her eyes widen as she reads it aloud. "Count to infinity or the world will end."
A heavy silence falls over the room.
My heart races as I realize the gravity of the situation.
"This can't be real," I whisper, but deep down, I know it is.
Mark stops pacing and looks at us with determination. "We need to start counting immediately."
"Wait," Sarah interrupts, holding up a hand. "We need to understand more first. There has to be something we're missing."
Just then, the lights flicker and a deep rumble shakes the building.
I grab Mark's arm, my eyes wide with fear. "We don't have time," I say urgently.
The rumbling intensifies, shaking the walls and making books fall off the shelves.
"We need to do something now!" Mark shouts over the noise.
Sarah's fingers fly over her keyboard as she searches for more information. "There has to be another way!"
The floor beneath us begins to tremble violently, and I can hear distant screams from other parts of the building.
"Emily, start counting!" Mark yells, his voice filled with desperation.
